Standard VII

Instructional Planning Skills

The teacher plans and prepares instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, curriculum goals, and instructional strategies.

Planning lessons is the foundation of teaching in general, basic terms. However, there is a lot more to compiling a plan that is easy to follow and understand, while still embarking on the topics as deeply, and greatly, as possible.

The following artifacts are the lesson plans that I have created and taught to students over the course of my time at The College of Idaho. I think that each of these lessons show that I am fully capable of organizing my thoughts and actions into a cohesive and straightforward manner, presenting me as an individual who understands the principles of communicating the necessary knowledge in order for my student to learn.
While each of the following lesson plans differ from each other in context and material, the broad range only highlights my ability to comprehend the curriculum and material, as well as translate it into more simple and interesting terms for the students to participate in. I also chose to include all four of my lessons because I think it is important to note that the two classes I taught these lessons to were vastly different—6th grade verses 11th grade. I feel confident that I have gained enough of an educational teaching background to succeed in adapting my styles and lessons respectively, based on the situation.
I see each of these lesson plans as a platform for my attitude towards teaching. Learning to teach is obviously a process, however, as can be seen in my lesson plans, I feel that I have come a long way and have executed these plans as well as possible. Each lesson plan is linked below.
