Standard II:

Knowledge of Human Development and Learning

The teacher understands how students learn and develop, and provides opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and personal development.

The development of students correlates quite a bit for teachers who are teaching the complex materials that our curriculum demands; furthermore, I believe it is imperative for teachers to understand the process of teaching, and how they can better help their students through knowledge and learning.

In standard two, I decided to include a research essay I completed that focuses on the development of language in low socioeconomic status (SES) children because it is a group that is growing so much larger within our communities, especially as the nation is experiencing financial struggles. It is definitely important to understand the basics of language accusation, as well as the difficulties that students are likely to face during that process, whether they hail from a specific background or not.

Also, within this standard, I incorporated a PowerPoint presentation focused on ADHD and the effects this learning disorder within a classroom. The presentation was a group effort, and it sheds light on the issues and challenges that ADHD students face within a variety of classrooms. Within the PowerPoint, we also cover what teachers can do in order to help their students succeed. Both are linked below.
