Standard III:

Adapting Instruction for Individual Needs

The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities to meet students’ diverse needs and experiences.

Standard three is imperative for teachers because there are so many individual needs within a classroom, and each student deserves the opportunity to explore all aspects of education to the best of their abilities, with help from the instructor. I included an essay I wrote in response to a Poverty Simulation I participated in at The College of Idaho. This was a very interesting experience and it really helped me understand that often, within the confines of poverty, education is not of the highest priority, and that it falls on the shoulder of the teacher to encourage students to participate and learn. This was a wonderful experience, since it was so different than my own personal history. Again, the essay in full is linked below.
